Product Line Engineering  Design Concepts

The PLE design is all about working with   Global and Local Configurations. This article discussed the research, hills and concept design for the PLE project.

Automated Meter Reader Scenario

The PLE scenario is an variant of the classic Automated Meter Reader sample used in the Rational Systems Engineering products. For PLE the scenario has been expanded to describe how JK Meters Corp is developing a product line of automated meter reader products with manual, mobile and grid variants across markets in US, EU and UK. This article tells the story of JK Meters and how the organization is developing its product variants.

Product Line Engineering Personas

The PLE personas are based on the shared set of Rational and Systems and Software Engineering personas. For PLE design, two key personas were selected. This article outlines the Configuration Manager and System Engineer personas and their importance in the PLE scenario.

Persona Trading Cards

For IBM Interconnect 2013 we created 'Trading Cards' for the Systems and Software  Engineering personas. This is a fun giveaway to conference attendees and an attraction to the Design Studio sessions run at the conference. Check out the cards in this article.

UX Design for the Global Configuration Application

The PLE design is all about working with Global and Local Configurations. This article discusses the user experience design in the Global Configuration tool and the use of the configuration switcher in the practitioner tools.

UX Design for the Global Configuration Switcher

The PLE design is all about working with Global and Local Configurations. This article discusses the user experience design and the use of the global configuration switcher in the CE practitioner tools.

Designing the Configuration Management User Experience in CLM 6.0

We are nearing the release of Collaborative Lifecycle Management (CLM) 6.0 that will include Configuration Management (CfgM) across lifecycle projects, which we developed using IBM Design principles. Check out my blog on Jazz.net on how we used design thinking and release hills to expresses user value, objectives and the scope for the CLM 6.0 the release.

Designing User Experience Concepts in Multi-Stream Configuration Management

IBM Interconnect 2015

This workshop session use design thinking practices for generating and reviewing UX concepts for Multi-Stream Configuration Management in the IBM Rational CLM tools. Attendees will participating in reviewing the Configuration Management content model and identify user actions and outcome to the model. User actions will be allocated to the user interfaces merged into a Task Board for Multi-Stream Configuration Management documenting a desired usage model.

Designing a Configuration Aware Reporting Solution for Product Line Engineering

IBM Interconnect 2015

This workshop will use design thinking practices for exploring reporting needs for team practicing Multi-Stream Configuration Management and Product Line Engineering. Attendees will participate through ideation, clustering of ideas and prioritisation to provide recommendations on metrics, queries, reports and the lifecycle data required for such reporting.

Designing Impact Analysis Capabilities for Product Line Engineering

IBM Interconnect 2015

This workshop session will use design thinking practices for exploring user experience concepts, storyboards and content models to identify practitioner needs for impact analysis.

User Experience Consistency: Where Does It Matter The Most?

Inncer Circle - IBM Interconnect 2015

The PLE solution is impacting the user experience in all participating CE tools. The PLE design is not just the look, but also the same behaviour across the solution. This session discusses the consistent items and their ranking in the product plan.

Validity – Going Beyond Suspect Links

Inncer Circle - IBM Interconnect 2015

Link validity is a status on a link between artefacts to indicate whether the contents of two artefacts meet the intended meaning of their link. This session introduces the Validity concept and the user experience design.

Unlocking Engineering Knowledge - Impact Analysis

Inncer Circle - IBM Interconnect 2015

The IBM solution for Continuous Engineering delivers rich capabilities for impact analysis. And we are seeking ways to make use of these capabilities easier by removing tool boundaries, enabling collaboration in the I/A process, simplifying building and using tabular and diagram report views, and simplifying building and using visual views. This session discusses the needs on Impact Analysis.

Validation of PLE Roles and Personas and User Experience Maps at Innovate 2014

IBM Innovate 2014

The session attendees will select a PLE scenario persona and participate in smaller groups in a ideation session to capture the experience map of the selected persona.

Global baseline and product variants management at Innovate 2013

IBM Innovate 2013

Technologies such as VVC and GC enables components reuse and development of multiple products or applications from a common architecture. We will collect and validate the customer requirements, and explore the UX design for global baseline of lifecycle artifacts across domains and variant creation and management.
